Remembering a loved one...

At one time or another, we have all experienced the grief of losing a loved one, whether human or fur-baby. We often are at a loss and desire a way to do something to honor their memory. Flowers are nice, but they only last a few days. A plant or tree is nice as well, but are you sure the recipient wants the responsibility of its care? Next time you find yourself in this situation, consider making a tax-deductible donation to "Pet Love, Inc." in memory of your loved one and know that your support allows us to continue sharing our pets love with others in need.

Adventure Camp - Spring 2016

The weather for the spring session of Adventure Camp was beautiful, if maybe just a tad on the warm side, but we staked out some cool shade and enjoyed the view in between groups of children that stopped to pet and love on the dogs. All the pictures on this post were from Wednesday, April 20th.
Pet Love members present were Emma and her poodle Willie, newest member Vickie and her Labrador, Sawyer, Sharon and her Golden-Doodle, Latte', Cathy and her all-American, Sadie, and Kim with English Mastiff, Beezly.
All the dogs got along beautifully together and loved the attention they received from the children, teachers and other volunteers.
And just in case you're wondering, we've cropped the faces of the children from the pictures as many of them are wards of the state, so you'll just have to trust us that there were lots of smiles! :)

What better way to end the day than by dipping our toes in the lake?

Adventure Camp Fall 2015

Adventure Camp, Spring 2014

Adventure Camp, spring 2014, Phoebe was taking in the view while waiting patiently for the first busload of kids to arrive on 4/22/14. The weather was beautiful, the sun was shining and everyone had a great day!

4/24/14, the day started off quite breezy and overcast, making it rather chilly. Phoebe was shivering uncontrollably, so we wrapped her in a beach towel to help block the wind.

Even the Chick-Fil-A cow made an appearance, but she forgot to bring free samples!

This picture was sent to us by a relative of the little boy petting Phoebe's head. We love it when you send us pix of your family members loving on our therapy pets!!

The purpose of the Pet Love Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) is to enhance the daily living of clients by providing opportunities to interact with animals in a positive, nurturing environment. AAT programs evolved as a result of numerous studies addressing the beneficial aspects of the human/animal bond. Many of the studies have shown that interaction with animals can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and enhance self-esteem... not to mention warm, fuzzy animals just feel good! Pet Love, Inc. is financed, directed and staffed by its volunteers, and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The program provides service to many facilities in the greater Louisville area. These include nursing homes, hospitals, psychiatric and rehabilitation centers and classrooms for special-needs children. In addition, volunteers participate in community outreach events such as wellness fairs and summer or day camps for the mentally and physically challenged. All volunteers are required to attend an orientation workshop. The workshop is designed to familiarize the volunteers with every facet of our program. We present a brief history of animal-assisted therapy, explain Pet Love policies and procedures, acquaint the new volunteer with various populations they may encounter and address zoonotic diseases, animal health and stress in therapy pets. The animal volunteers are required to attend and pass temperament testing. Each pet must have on file a medical evaulation form completed by his/her veterinarian and an annual update. All animals are constantly monitored for behavior, cleanliness and hygiene.
